Welsh Soprano Stephanie Smith studied at the Royal Northern College of Music under the direction of Mary Plazas and graduated with a BMus(Hons) degree in Vocal and Opera Studies. She continued her studies at Postgraduate level at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with Gail Pearson and was successful in gaining an Erasmus Exchange place for her second year at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig, Germany. She recently completed her studies at the Wales International Academy of Voice with Dennis O'Neill CBE.
Roles include Barbarina The Marriage of Figaro (Mid Wales Opera) chorus Tosca for the Abu Dhabi Festival with Sir Bryn Terfel, Pamina Die Zauberflöte (Amsterdam Opera Studio), Giannetta (cover) L’elisir d’amore (Woodhouse Opera), Kate Pinkerton Madame Butterfly, Shepherd Boy Tosca, Flora’s Servant La Traviata, Barbarina The Marriage of Figaro (Heritage Opera) and Jay The Cunning Little Vixen, cover Dog The Cunning Little Vixen (Co-Opera Co). During her time at the RNCM, Stephanie performed Miss Pinkerton Old Maid and the Thief and Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro in RNCM Opera Scenes. Scenes for Co-Opera Co also include Gretel Hänsel und Gretel and the First Flower Maiden Parsifal. Scenes at the RWCMD include The Plaint The Fairy Queen and 2nd Witch Macbeth.
Stephanie frequently appears on the concert platform, and has been a soloist in many Oratorio including: The Armed Man (Brangwyn Hall) Paul Mealor Stabat Mater (Brangwyn Hall) Mozart Requiem (Tenby Arts Festival), Rutter Requiem (St David’s Cathedral), Hadyn Stabat Mater (St David’s Cathedral), Jenkins The Armed Man (St David’s Cathedral), Britten Hymn to St Cecila (Yorke Trust), Vivaldi Gloria (St Ann’s Church, Manchester) and Haydn Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis de Deo (St Peter’s Church, Goodwick). She recently made her Recital Debut in the University of Leeds International Concert Series performing a recital of female composers for international Women's day.
Recent concerts include opening night of the Festival of Voice at the Millennium Centre with Max Richter, soloist for Oratorios at the Brangwyn Hall with British Sinfonietta and recital for Barry Arts Festival.
